Buffe
Description: The Eurasian Ruffe (also simply Ruffe or Pope – Gymnocephalus cernua), is a freshwater fish found in temperate regions of Europe and northern Asia. Once very common in the UK it is not often seen now as they are seen a less valuable species for sport fishermen. They are also extremely well camouflaged to passers by!
Entertaining and vibrant fish, they can become quite bold and learn very quickly where a food source comes from.
Maximum Size: Ruffe can exceed 6″ (15cm). Best suited to small natural ponds. They can also be a prolific breeder!
Environment: They are an adaptable species and can survive in a variety of pond sizes. Most suited to a smaller pond as they do require a ‘live’ food source and structure to hide in. Being a small predatory species they are a useful addition to many ponds where Goldfish/Roach/Rudd are overpopulating. Good water parameters are a must. An air pump is advisable as they are less tolerable to low oxygen levels.
Water Conditions: Ruffe require a pH range of 7-8.5, Ammonia and Nitrite to be virtually 0ppm and dissolved oxygen saturation to remain above 8ppm.
As with any pet, please fully research for yourself to ensure that you can accommodate a fish of this type in your home
