Bronze Bream – Abramis brama

Description: Bronze Bream or Common Bream (Abramis brama), are a European species of freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae. It is now considered to be the only species in the genus Abramis. A shoal fish, it is happiest grazing the bottom for food items. It will surface feed however, and this is becoming much more common in the wild as well.

Maximum Size: Upto 24″ but on average 12-14″ when fully grown.

Environment: Common throughout the UK in all but the fastest of rivers, they do best in large lakes and slow moving rivers. As such, a large pond with a suitable depth of 3feet or more is required. They are generally bottom dwellers, but will rise in the water column as temperatures increase. It is not uncommon for them to adapt to surface feeding in warmer months.

Water Conditions: They require a pH range of 7-8.5, Ammonia and Nitrite to be virtually 0ppm. Dissolved oxygen saturation to remain above 6ppm.

As with any pet, please fully research for yourself to ensure that you can accommodate a fish of this type in your home.
