Great Pond Snail – Lymnaea stagnalis
Great Pond snails are a nice addition to a wildlife type pond or aquarium. They can reach sizes in excess of 2″ and considered one of our largest freshwater native snails. They prefer slow moving or still water. the Great Pond Snail is a hermaphroditic species and can mate in the male and female role.
They would be eaten by larger fish such as Koi and tench, but are compatible with smaller species in a well planted pond. Ideally a wildlife pond is their preferred habitat.
Great Pond Snails are sensitive to treatments with copper and fish medications that are used to eradicate fish lice, anchor worm and gill maggots. Always refer to manufacturers instructions on treatments in your pond or aquarium.
