Diamond Sturgeon – Acipenser gueldenstaedtii

Description: Diamond Sturgeon are one of the most popular Sturgeon species. Diamond sturgeon , also known as the Russian sturgeon or Danube sturgeon is one of the larger sturgeon species. When looking for a Diamond Sturgeon you should look to obtain the lightest possible. Poorer quality ones loose their white markings as they grow. Diamond Sturgeon are one of the quickest growing of the Sturgeon varieties.

They are very peaceful fish and will generally spend most of their time in the lower reaches of the pond going about their business.

Maximum Size: Upto 60″ but on average 36-50″ when mature.

Environment: Sturgeon have a preference for cooler water. It is important to feed them a good quality sturgeon food (we sell this!) and do so throughout the year. They a require a large pond due to their adult size and can achieve this within a few years. Good filtration (suitable for Koi) and aeration is a must.

Water Conditions: Diamond Sturgeon require a pH range of 7-8.5, Ammonia and Nitrite to be virtually 0ppm and dissolved oxygen saturation to remain above 8ppm. An air pump is a must if considering adding any of the Sturgeon species to your pond.

As with any pet, please fully research for yourself to ensure that you can accommodate a fish of this type in your home.
