Butterfly Koi – Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Description: Butterfly Koi – Cyprinus rubrofuscus (sometimes known as long fin koi or dragon koi) have long flowing fins and are mesmerizing to watch! They are available in the majority of varieties that ‘regular’ koi are available in. They are becoming increasingly popular as an addition to Koi ponds. Due to the complexity in breeding good examples, they do tend to have a higher price tag. Whilst not for everyone, they do make a great addition to any koi pond. Please note: we may not have all varieties available year round and as such, we can only send a selection of fish from available stock. We will send a selection and you may receive more than one of a specific type based on availability. Mix will include some metallic variations.
Maximum Size: Upto 30″ but on average 12-16″ when mature.
Environment: With all of the Koi types, the best possible water conditions are required. A well filtered pond with specific koi filtration is perferential with aeration through the addition of air pumps.
Water Conditions: Butterfly Koi require a pH range of 7-8.5. Ammonia and Nitrite need to be virtually 0ppm and dissolved oxygen saturation to remain above 6ppm. Koi are quite tolerable to lower oxygen saturation values than a lot of fish but this is not something we can recommended.
